Rock, Pop, Classical & Musical Theatre Singing Lessons
with Aziza Poggi

I am a classically trained mezzo-soprano with extensive performance and teaching experience spanning rock, pop, classical, and musical theatre. A graduate of Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Music (Dean’s List honors for most of my studies), I previously trained in classical voice and music education at Grand Rapids Community College, where I performed in the Honors Recital, sang in the Madrigal Singers—a select ensemble of female voices—and participated in special concerts.

My career highlights include fronting the symphonic rock band Aria Flame and my earlier band Dendura, which was featured on Comedy Central’s cartoon web series by Paul Rodenberg. Together, these bands have opened for internationally acclaimed acts including Epica, Lacuna Coil, Xandria, Edguy, Amanda Somerville, Leaves’ Eyes, Evergrey, and more. Aria Flame also performed at the prestigious Metal Female Voices Festival and Femme festival in Europe.

My classical performance career includes Carnegie Hall, where I appeared with the West Michigan Opera Project, as well as numerous concerts they perform. In addition to performing, I proudly serve on the board, working to support and uplift my fellow singers and colleagues while fostering the growth and vitality of our regional opera community. I am often hired to sing for special one-off classical concerts, such as An Evening with Mozart, as well as for my own self-produced classical recital held each November, featuring select students, fellow classical singers, and an array of music spanning classical repertoire to musical theatre. I have also been hired to sing for special events and to record for professional projects. My experience in the industry helps me help my students while my education helps them learn how to use their voice and learn technique.

Along the way, I have studied with renowned mentors including opera sensation Nicholas Loren (current), Dr. Stephen Barton (GRCC Music Department), Bill Bokhout (Opera Grand Rapids), Diane Koperski (GRCC Voice Program), Melissa Ferlaak (Plague of Stars), Pamela Moore (Queensrÿche), and others.

I have been honored with several prestigious awards in 2025, including:

  • First Prize in the Professional Classical category at the New York Classical Music Competition (June 2025)

  • Gold Prize (First Prize) in the Romantic Classical category at the Erik Satie International Music Competition (May 2025)

  • Third Place in the Professional category for the USA at the International Schubert Competition Vienna (April 2025)

  • Honorable Mentions from the Bach International Music Competition and the Classical Music Stars Competition (May 2025)

  • Featured Berklee College of Music 2025 graduate on their social media for overcoming personal learning challenges growing up and learning to use it to excel in my field

As a teacher, I understand that great singing is not just about technique—it’s about confidence, artistry, and personal expression. My own journey began with self-doubt, but through dedicated study, performance, and mentorship, I transformed my voice and career. I now bring that same insight, compassion, and technical expertise to my students. I also struggled with dyslexia and spatial math. I learned to navigate and use my struggles to build better learning habits and can also help you do the same! If you believe, you can achieve!

I offer lessons for beginner to intermediate students ages 8+ (parent/guardian present if under 18), taught either in-person at my studio or online via Zoom or Skype. Every lesson is fully customized to your vocal goals, whether you aim to prepare for auditions, expand your range, refine your stage presence, or simply discover your voice. Student Review:

“My daughter started with Aziza a few years back and all I can say is she has progressed immensely. From being super nervous to perform in front of people, to performing a solo as a freshman this year. Aziza has a way of teaching, working with my child’s fears and concerns and excels at it. My daughter has improved not only in her singing but in her confidence, perseverance, and self-esteem in singing. I cannot recommend Aziza enough. If you are looking for an amazing teacher, mentor, and friend, I encourage you to contact her and see what she can do for you or your child!” – Jason D.

“Aziza is amazing, I have been taking voice lessons off and on with her for years, and this year I have gotten back into taking voice lessons with her regularly. She is really great at teaching, and helping to break a person out of their comfort zone to achieve their dreams as a singer/musician. Whether your a beginner or advanced singer or somewhere in between, she will work with you where you are at on your journey. She also brings a lot of knowledge, wisdom and years of experience along with a positive attitude to the table. I also hired her along with a piano player named Scott Taylor for my wedding back in October to perform 5 songs, and they both did a phenomenal job at it, we had them play two songs as my Wife and I's first dance, and had her sing The Lord's Prayer during the ceremony, her voice is so beautiful and really did each song justice.” - Jared P

“Aziza is wonderful!
She has been working with my daughter for few months now and she has helped her a lot. Aziza is very skilled and kind. Definitely recommend!!-Juliana T.
